Hey cinema lovers, I am Abhishek, and today I’m diving into a film that’s been the talk of the town—Black (2024). This film has definitely piqued my interest, whether it’s because of the [unique performances, captivating storyline, stunning visuals], or something else entirely. Come discuss what went well, what didn’t, and if you should add this movie to your watch list.
KG Balasubramani wrote and directed the science fiction movie Black, which was released in Tamil in 2024. It is a version of the American movie Coherence from 2013. Under Potential Studios LLP, S. R. Prakash Babu, S. R. Prabhu, P Gopinath, and Thanga Prabaharan R are producing it. Alongside Vivek Prasanna, Yog Japee, Sha Ra, and Swayam Siddha, Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar play the main roles in the movie.
The official title of the movie, Black, was revealed in August 2024. Prior to the film’s release, principal photography started and ended. Gokul Benoy handled the film’s cinematography, Philomin Raj edited it, and Sam C. S. composed the music. On October 11, 2024, Black was released globally in theaters in conjunction with Ayudha Puja.
I was definitely entertained and involved, but the film could have been so much better!
Likeable: the film doesn’t waste any time, making it incredibly captivating and holding your attention from the first frame to the next. Watching this is a treat. Bravo to the actors and screenwriters for their clear and crisp dialogue delivery. The pace and lighting are just right to keep you interested, and there’s just the right amount of interaction you want to hear. provides what it depicts; there are no extraneous or unnecessary jump scares, gore makeup, etc. It is difficult to see in today’s world of overly optimistic films, but you can take everything at face value and believe it. The way that the past and present are connected is excellent, and the editing is superb.
Unwanted extras: Ten minutes could have easily been cut because the actors lacked chemistry and the songs were terrible. Unwanted heroics to prove he is the hero and try to turn the audience away, such as his stand-up routine for women, his altercation at the supermarket, and the touching scenes with the soon-to-be father, are completely unnecessary for the film and add nothing worthwhile. An additional fifteen minutes could have been eliminated.
It got lost: The mystery’s development is neither resolved nor adequately explained. There are still unanswered questions, such as why it happens to them, why a backstory linking the couple to the mystery is a lost chance, and why the mystery was left unsolved and left to suffer for anyone else. The film took its time explaining what was happening, but it didn’t explain how to stop it or how to solve the puzzle. Scenes would have been more captivating and fascinating with improved sound design.
My Verdict: What could have been a mind-bending epic is now a movie that can only be seen in theaters!
My Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars.
