Date of the Upcoming DCU “Superman” Trailer Release Revealed By James Gunn

This morning, James Gunn shared a teaser for a motion poster that led some people to believe it was a Superman trailer. However, a few moments later, he shared a small preview along with the news that the real Superman trailer would be released on Thursday, December 19. At 9 AM ET, if it coincides with the time he currently posts content.

I guess it is possible to overanalyze this teaser, which Gunn recently tweeted. It is a metal engraving of Superman’s logo. In his stronghold? The Justice Hall? Who knows?

Here is the motion poster he displayed prior to that, which offers a fresh, official glimpse of Superman in flight as illustrated by David Corenswet.

Even if you missed it, we already know the movie’s release date, so the Superman trailer will not give it away. Eight months from now, on July 11, 2025, the movie will be released, which is why we are getting a trailer now.

Although the DCU has technically already begun, this will be its main kick-off. Creature Commandos, an animated series that combines elements of the Suicide Squad monsters with some characters who will soon make an appearance in live-action, portrayed by their vocal equivalents, is now the first true DCU product. Among them is Alan Tudyk’s Clayface, who will shortly be featured in Creature Commandos. And reportedly play the lead in that movie. With a few possible exceptions (for example, we do not know if Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will ever exist in this universe and she seemed to be moving on), Gunn has also seemed to incorporate significant elements of his own Peacemaker and Suicide Squad canon, bringing over plot points and actors from those series.

The early DCU will be defined by the Superman trailer, which will show what Gunn’s vision looks like in real life. Is he aiming for a whole different tone here, or will it lean as heavily on comedy as Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy?

The two major projects on the table after this are the HBO series Lanterns and a Supergirl movie. Numerous other television shows and films have been announced, but they are all farther off and lack casts. Additionally, there will be a Batman 2 that is not part of the DCU, but according to Gunn, the script is not yet complete.

I am eagerly awaiting Thursday in order to get a sneak peek at what I believe will be a fantastic new DC era that will rival Marvel. We will soon find out.
